Not sure what type of insurance you need? No problem!
No problem. Our FREE Life Insurance Guide explains how life insurance works and outlines the benefits of different types of policies in a simple, and easy to understand way. This allows you to shop for insurance before you talk to an agent or broker.
There are 15 types of life insurance. Each designed for a specific stage of life, or according to specific needs or financial goals you may have.
We have broken down each type of insurance into a few key points so you can quickly get an idea what type you might need.
Each type of insurance has a (very) detailed page so that you can read more. Just click the read more button and you'll be taken there.
This site is not owned or run by an insurance company, agent or broker. We aren't selling anything. If you see an agents name or contact information, it is a paid advertisement (see below)
Our guide is both FREE and Unbiased. You will not find any attempts to sell anything to you or get your contact info. For example many sites scatter links such as "Book an appointment" or "Contact an Agent" throughout their pages. You will not find such phrases hidden within our pages. Just the facts. This resource is free because it is supported by advertisements. To read more about how that works, please read the advertising disclosure statement below (click the orange bar).
This resource is supported by advertisements from insurance companies or individual agents & brokers. These ads will be clearly marked as sponsors. Since insurance agents are licensed in specific provinces, you may not see any advertisements at all. For example, if you live in Ontario and we have don't have an advertiser that is licensed in Ontario, you will not see any advertisements at all. This is because it makes no sense for you to see an ad from an agent or company that can't legally help you with either advice, or purchase of insurance products. Should you chose to contact one (or more) of these agents we will provide a secure form that only requires your name, and a contact point such as your email or phone number. You may also ask the agent a question in the space provided, or you may contact them directly.
We don't just take anyone as an advertiser. They have to have a track record of ethical and professional behavior. For example, they should not employ high pressure sales tactics that try to scare you into buying a product. If contacted, they should not call you over and over trying to "make a sale". We expect them to respect your wishes. If you need a few days or weeks to think about things you should be left alone. We also expect them to speak with you in a helpful friendly manner. This means that they should never speak to you in a rude way.
Thankfully, unprofessional behavior hasn't been a problem so far. However, if you contact one of our advertisers and you are not happy with how they interact with you, please don't hesitate to contact us. We have a specific form for reporting complaints. It is located here Advertiser Complaints.
Term life insurance is best suited for you if you have time-limited financial obligations and want substantial coverage at a lower cost. It’s straightforward, cost-effective, and provides peace of mind during the years you have significant responsibilities—like raising children, paying off a mortgage, or expanding a business.
Whole life insurance is best suited for individuals who want lifelong coverage, guaranteed premiums, and a cash value component that grows over time. This makes it appealing if you have estate planning needs, risk-averse savers, or anyone who values the security of a policy that doesn’t expire. However, the premiums are higher.
Final Expense Insurance (often referred to as Burial Insurance) is best suited for those who only need a modest death benefit to cover end-of-life costs, such as funeral and burial expenses. It’s particularly attractive to seniors, people with health issues, or anyone on a fixed income who may not qualify for—or need—larger life insurance policies. While premiums can be higher for the coverage amount, it offers peace of mind and spares loved ones from immediate financial stress after the policyholder’s passing.
Mortgage life insurance is best suited for homeowners who want a straightforward, dedicated policy that pays off their mortgage if they die before the loan is fully paid. It’s particularly useful for those with health issues, older individuals who have trouble qualifying for standard life insurance, or families with a single breadwinner. However, it can be less flexible and is often more expensive than a standard term life policy, so it’s essential to compare options and confirm which aligns best with your financial needs.
